Creating Without Pain: Ergonomics for Fiber Artists, Rebecca Mezoff - Saturday, February 4th

Does your back hurt? Are your fingers cramped? Do you have an annoying injury resulting from what should be a sedentary hobby? Rebecca Mezoff is our presenter this month and she will share ergonomics wisdom from her occupational therapist days where she learned a great deal about health and body mechanics. This lecture reviews some basic anatomy and talks about body positioning, common injuries, and pain mechanisms for all kinds of fiber arts.

So join us this weekend and learn how to avoid those repetitive motion injuries.

After the presentation, we will have an open crafting session so bring your works in progress, spinning wheels, and looms and be ready to enjoy an afternoon with fellow crafters.

Evolution of a Fiber Artist, Elaine Sipes - Saturday, December 3rd

Elaine Sipes, of Your Daily Fiber in Fort Collins, CO, will be our speaker this December. Elaine will share her journey from student to designer and fiber artist. Be prepared for a discussion of way stations, bumps in the road, laughter and disappointments, but always progressing in learning what happens when fiber is joined to create a new entity.  Elaine attended CSU and received her Fine arts degree in 1977 with an emphasis on Fibers.

Stick around after Elaine's program for our first Member Craft-along of the year. Need to work on that special holiday gift away from the family? This afternoon is the perfect time to get some secret crafting done. Bring whatever you are working on (weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, tatting, sewing, etc) and craft with your fellow members for the afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Color as Energy, David Johnson - Saturday, November 5th

David Johnson will be giving the program at November's meeting on Color as Energy: Physical and Emotional. That afternoon he is scheduled to give a workshop titled Color and Fiber: Optical and Mechanical Mixing. Cost is $65.

Workshop Description: In this design workshop we will explore the unique properties embodied in fiber that allows us to express with color. Unlike paint, as we blend yarns together we are able to create layers of transparency with the yarns retaining their original identity. In the dye pot, we are able to create a complete spectrum of color and value using four basic stock solutions. Student will complete two design assignments demonstrating the two types of mixing and how they may work together using watercolor on paper and yarns.

Material will be supplied by the instructor. Students are asked to bring a medium sized watercolor brush.

There is still room left in this workshop.

Member-to-Member Sale & Spin-Knit In - Saturday, April 2nd

It's that time of year again (where has the year gone?).  The Annual Member-to-Member sale is this Saturday, April 2nd, after the general meeting. So take a break from the Yarn Fest and come to the guild meeting to see what our members have to offer. Last year I went crazy and bought tons of Schafewald Farm yarn to weave a blanket (no, it's not done yet).

Stick around after the sale for a guild Spin-In/Knit-In. Bring your wheels or your WIPs and spend some time with your fellow guild members doing what we love to do best.

See you on Saturday!
